The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has expressed its strong opposition to the extension of the ongoing lockdown imposed by the federal and some state governments in Nigeria.
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has urged the federal government headed by President Muhammadu Buhari and state governments to urgently review the strategies they have so far adopted to confront the COVID-19 pandemic with a view to fashioning out more effective, appropriate and sustainable approaches to managing the Coronavirus challenge.
The PRP hereby demands that President Muhammadu Buhari ask the Minister of Hunanitarian Services and Disaster Management to immediately tell Nigerians:
a) The names, location of the 2.6 million Nigerians given N20,000.00 each;
b) The methodology used in the disbursement of the said N5,200,000,000.00 to 2.6million Nigerians; and,
c) The source of this N5.2billion and if it came from the Public Treasury, when it was appropriated to the said Ministry.
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has commiserated with the victims of pipeline explosion in Abule Ado, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, on Sunday. The party has also called on the government to be proactive.
“The recent positive health bill declared by even the INEC itself for the party is certainly just one pointer to this fact. Those of us already on board this unstoppable moving train should now close ranks and add to the ongoing momentum. Those presently outside should get on as there is nothing stopping us now,” he said.
In addition, the party used the Christmas occasion to call on Nigerians to embrace peace and shun violence, stating that neither Christianity nor Islam espouses violence. It also urged the Christian compatriots to pray to God for Nigerians to continue living in peace and unity.
“We consider the approval of N37 billion you granted for renovation of the National Assembly, (a complex built with nearly N7.5 billion) in addition to their 2020 budget of N128 billion a wrong step and a misplacement of priority. This approval totally negates the fundamental principle of our party, the PRP, considering the fact that it is coming at a time when Nigerians are experiencing excruciating human suffering from hunger and poverty.
“When it came into office in 2015, the government inherited a debt burden of just Ten Billion Dollars ($10billion). Today our country’s debt exposure has spiraled up to about eighty four billion dollars ($84billion). Yet there is hardly anything on the ground to show for this staggering debt profile. This irresponsible profligacy must stop before our Country and its present and future generations become indentured slaves. Already debt servicing is costing us almost half the Budget with nothing left for development.” He said.
“We salute the Government and Legislature of Zamfara State for abolishing thievery in their state in the guise of Pension and Retirement benefit of former Governors, their Deputies, Speakers and their Deputies which has reportedly robbed their citizens of N760 million in a state with only one trained Mathematics teacher and where Secondary Schools do only two terms instead of three terms as in other states for want of funds.”
Vowing to seek redress at the Appeal Court, the PRP described the judgment as “unfair, and a clear diversion of justice.”
