The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has once again raised alarm over the deepening hardship facing millions of Nigerians, calling on the Federal Government to urgently address the growing crisis of multidimensional poverty in the country. In a recent statement, the NLC emphasized that the current economic situation is no longer sustainable for the average Nigerian. While inflation continues to rise, wages have stagnated, and basic necessities like food, healthcare, transportation, and housing have become unaffordable luxuries for many households.

In a significant move aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerian workers, President Bola Tinubu has approved a new minimum wage of N70,000. This decision, which reflects the administration’s commitment to enhancing the living standards of the workforce, was announced by the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, July 18.

In an attempt to identify the numerous challenges crippling economic activities in Nigeria, the President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Ayuba Wabba, was quick to state that the nation’s currency had since lost its value by over 150%.
