Given the economic effect of the Coronavirus pandemic, Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has ordered a 50% reduction in salaries of all senior political appointees in the state with immediate effect.
Governor Makinde gave the order during the 2020 International Workers’ Day held at the secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress on Friday.
Meanwhile, the governor assured civil servants in the state that they would not be affected by the pay cut.

He said, “nothing will affect the welfare and payment of the worker’s salary despite the dwindling economy.”
According to him, the pay cut would be channelled towards the execution and completion of developmental projects in the state.
You will recall that the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomole had earlier urged state governors not to deduct wages of their workers.
The former labour union leader noted that it would have adverse effects on the livelihood of the workers if their salaries are cut.
Meanwhile, Makinde in a post on his Twitter handle revealed that he had visited some border towns in Oyo State to assess compliance with restricted entry into the state.
In the tweet, the governor noted that the issues with compliance are more prominent on the major express roads; Lagos-Ibadan and Ibadan-Ife, adding that compliance at the smaller entry points into the state is better.
