Former Nigeria head coach and skipper, Sunday Oliseh about a year ago, reviewed the best Nigerian National team to have played together.
Sunday Oliseh shared the experiences and the love that exited amongst the team members, and he said the 1994 Super Eagles team is the best to set when talking about all the National teams Nigeria has ever organized.
Oliseh gave an emotional but funny speech as both he and his former team-mates from the Africa Cup of Nations lined up to collect Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) “legend” awards to commemorate 25 years of the country’s winning of the trophy in 1994.
In his speech, he spoke of uniting the players, although they came from different backgrounds and locality.
Sunday Oliseh said they hardly agree on anything, but whenever they were the Nigerian jersey, they all fall in line to one accord.
Sunday Oliseh commending on the love in the team said he could hear the defender Uche Ikechukwu telling Jay Jay Okocha “Jay Jay leave am as e kick you, him go come here.”
This shows truly that in the team like an injury to one is an injury to all. He also said late Stephen Keshi’s wife would cook African dish and bring to them in their hotel rooms.
He also commented on the qualities of some of the players saying the best attacker he has ever seen in his soccer career is Baba Rashidi.
He also mentioned Jay-Jay Okocha as one of the players who always provides a solution when it seems all is wrong in the team.
Sunday Oliseh said he has played with Zidane and Inzighi, but Baba Rashidi is he said he has the best finishing.
Sunday Oliseh and his colleagues were probably the most talented generation of players to represent Nigeria, and their achievement cannot be overlooked in any way.
It’s been over 20years now, and till date, their excellent performance remains fresh in the hearts of Nigerian football lovers.
