Great news arrived a few days ago for fans of Spotify in Nigeria! The streaming platform has launched its service in 85 new markets globally, including Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon and Kenya.
This would make Spotify available for more than one billion more people! So we will continue to hear things like “Spotify in Nigeria”, as well as “Spotify Ghana,” and the likes in West Africa, for a long time to come.
The announcement was made in a live streaming event that featured Justin Bieber, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

Spotify in Nigeria: What it is all about
Spotify has also announced a new higher sound quality subscription service and a new advertising marketplace for podcasts.
Most of these new markets are in developing countries in Asia, Africa, the Pacific and the Caribbean.
Spotify spokesman Alex Norstrom said, “Together, all these markets represent more than one billion people, with nearly half of them already using the internet.”
He added that some of the markets being penetrated, like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria, have the fastest growing internet populations globally.
The Swedish company started its service over a decade ago and is currently available in 93 countries, with 345 million monthly active users.

Spotify new Podcasts
Spotify has also announced creating a podcast advertising marketplace where advertisers can buy from a network of original, exclusive and independent podcasts.
Podcasts are an important part of Spotify’s strategy, as they try to set themselves apart from the competition.

To maintain its position as the “category leader” for audio, the company has begun to diversify into areas like podcasts, audiobooks and meditation, according to Andrew Milroy, director of technology advisory firm, Veqtor8.
The company has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to boost its podcast range, which now boasts more than 2.2 million titles.
Spotify recently announced a deal for a multiple podcast series with AGBO, a company led by creators of movies like “Avengers: Infinity War.”
They also signed a deal with Warner Bros and DC for a range of narrative-scripted podcasts and a new show from Barack and Michelle Obama production company featuring Bruce Springsteen.
Spotify podcasts already include “the Michelle Obama Podcast” and another one by Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan.
With the knowledge of all of this, it is safe to say that it is great news to have Spotify in Nigeria!
