South African police have taken four people into custody. They are believed to be the behind the apparent assassination attempt on the South African Broadcasting Cooperation (SABC) Chief audit executive, Thamsanqa (Thami) Zikode on Friday night.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed to News24 on earlier today that “Police have arrested a 32-year-old man and recovered a firearm with ammunition after a senior executive of the SABC was attacked last night”
Further adding “A getaway car was also recovered abandoned in the South Gate.”
SABC Chief audit executive Zikode escaped harm after he was followed home from the public broadcaster in Auckland Park on Friday night.
it was reported that he was followed by assailants who fired shots at him. One of the suspects was injured when Zikode fired back during the attack.
A manhunt for the three remaining suspects has been launched by police who are still at large.
Zikode was appointed in December 2017 in line with its ‘commitment to ensuring organization stability, financial recovery, and sound governance.”
The motive behind the attack still remains unknown. However, Zikode was believed to be working on a forensic investigation into fraud at the SABC. The SABC has said the matter is being handled by the police.
Zikode is unharmed and is grateful for his survival.
