What a feeling when you have a dream, pursue it and see it come to pass. Many have quit when they feel it’s not going to happen; that is not the case with Falhad Ahmed Mohamud. Dreams may take time to become a reality; it is certain it will when it is pursued without giving up. A mother of two, Falhad, graduates from a University in Virginia together with one of her daughters with a Masters degree in IT. Not many get to study in the same class with their children, Falhad did just that.
When she was very young, Falhad Mohamud promised her father that she would pursue higher education. She fulfilled this promise in style by graduating on the same day with her daughter. The family is said to have moved to the United States as refugees in 1980. Falhad’s husband returned to Somalia and was killed in battle leaving their two daughters Amina and Sofia with her. She has since raised the daughters alone, working to ensure they are educated, thereby sacrificing her own dream at some points.
Falhad eventually fulfilled the promise she made to her father about four decades ago. In a video posted by BBC Africa News, the mother and daughter were excited to have achieved this feat. The Somali-born mother also shared her views on returning to class in her 50s. This is a giant stride by the mother; she made it against all odds. It takes a strong determination and good courage to fulfill her childhood dreams. These are one of the keys needed for whoever dares to dream and makes it a reality. It doesn’t matter the duration required for the dream to become a reality, it is very important not to quit and stop dreaming just like Falhad Ahmed Mohamud.
