How many people wish they could go to the gym every day? Probably a lot of people. How many people actually achieve this goal? We all know the answer. I’ve heard the receptionists at my local gym talk about a few people who register for a one month or three-month gym membership but only come once or twice and never show up again. In between working long hours, sleeping less and commuting long distances to meet the demands of an even more competitive workforce, it’s not exactly easy to have a fitness regimen. Keeping this in mind, we have compiled some fitness hacks that will make it easier for you get back on your fitness game:
Get a workout buddy:
As it is with most other activities, having a friend or co-worker who’s doing the same fitness program can add accountability, encouragement, and fun to your workout. It’s even more beneficial for you if they are more fit than you as that will push you to put in more effort.
Always have your gym bag in your car:
If you drive, having your gym bag in your car can be a good way to stay motivated as you will literally have your fitness goal always in sight. A good gym bag should include a workout outfit, appropriate shoes, headphones, a towel, a bottle of water, deodorant, and face wipes. Make sure you prop it in your back seat and not the boot.
Turn up the music:
You might already know the positive impact of music on working out and it has also been backed by science that music while working out can improve performance, increase motivation, and reduce distraction. According to a research on workout music, the most important aspects of a workout playlist are the tempo and “rhythm response,” how much a song makes you want to move, and the emotion it evokes.
Compound Exercises:
If you have limited time in the gym, focus on compound exercises like squats, dead-lifts, and bench presses. These exercises maximize growth because they target more than one muscle group unlike isolation exercises which are exercises that isolate a muscle group.
BodyWeight Exercises:
No gym? No problem. Bodyweight exercises like push ups and triceps dips involve using your own body mass as resistance in a workout. They’re convenient because they require no equipment and can be done almost anywhere. They are great at building your body’s foundation and can be easily customised to your personal needs. When done effectively you can build muscles or simply stay fit through bodyweight exercises.
Hire a trainer:
A trainer is a good investment especially if you have a hard time pushing yourself in the gym. Studies have shown that working out with a trainer can help increase your motivation and intensity during workouts. Always choose a trainer who has some background in nutrition as they could help with meal plans that will help in your fitness journey.
