Real Madrid and Belgian shot stopper Thibaut Courtois has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and is likely to miss the majority of the 2023/24 season. The 31-year-old Belgium international will have surgery in a few days.
Thibaut Courtois’ Injury Pave way for David de Gea
The former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid keeper who was named the best goalkeeper in the world at last year’s Ballon d’Or awards, has won Spain’s La Liga twice since joining Real Madrid in 2018.
He has made 230 appearances for the Spanish giant Real Madrid. Real will be playing Athletic Bilbao in their first La Liga game of the season on Saturday which is just in two days. Thibaut Courtois won the Premier League twice with Chelsea before his move to Real Madrid in 2018 and La Liga once with Atletico Madrid in 2014.
He also won the Champions League in 2022, delivering a man-of-the-match performance in the final against Liverpool. Real is looking at getting a new goalkeeper and Manchester United former goalkeeper David de Gea stands as their first choice. David de Gea left Manchester United after the end of the 2022/23 season and has since being a free agent.
