Manchester United have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Real Madrid to sign France international Raphael Varane. It is understood that the English Premier League club and the Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid both agreed on an initial fee of £34m, which could rise to £42m.

According to reports, the 28-year-old has agreed on a four-year contract with the option for another 12 months. Manchester United said the transfer would be completed “subject to a medical and player terms being finalised.”
Raphael Varane is a World Cup winner with France, and he has made 360 appearances for Real Madrid before this time. Real Madrid released a statement saying: “Real Madrid wants to show all its affection to Raphael Varane and his family and wishes him good luck in this new stage of his professional career.”
The statement also said: “Our club thanks you for your professionalism and exemplary behaviour during the ten seasons in which you defended our shirt.” Raphael Varane is Ole Gunner Solsljaer’s second signing in the ongoing transfer window. The first Jadon Sancho was unveiled sometime last week. United will be playing their first game on Sunday against Leeds United, and it seems the club is fully prepared for the 2021/22 English Premier League season.
