The Presidency has reacted to plans announced by the Niger Delta Avengers to blow up oil pipelines. The militants demanded that the federal government should inaugurate the substantive board for the Niger Delta Development Commission to avert the looming attacks.
Reacting to the threats, Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, said the President had addressed the militant group’s demands.
According to Adesina, President Buhari had addressed the demands during a meeting with newly elected leaders of the Ijaw National Council and other Niger Delta stakeholders.

The Presidential spokesman said the threat was coming less than 48 hours after President Buhari met with the Niger Delta and Ijaw National Congress leadership at the Presidential Villa, adding that Buhari had responded to the pertinent issues.
President Buhari had earlier stated that his administration is frontally addressing the issues; he also expressed concerns about environmental degradation in the Niger Delta region.

The President said the meeting with Elders of the Niger Delta and the leadership of the Ijaw National Congress at the State House, Abuja was an opportunity to clarify issues and respond to some concerns and requests raised by the militants.
He reiterated that the completion of the East-West Road is top on his infrastructure agenda and the construction of the Bridge linking Bonny Island to the Rivers Mainland.
Buhari vowed to ensure the speedy conclusion of the projects and all the others projects in the Niger Delta region.
