The president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has come out to defend the idea of the Super Eagles of Nigeria travelling by boat to play Benin in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Amaju Pinnick Supports Boat Cruise for Super Eagles
Amaju Pinnick made this known in a statement during an interview with Arise TV’s Morning Show News. He admitted that there is no big deal if they travel by road or by boat. The Super Eagles of Nigeria is expected to play Benin in Porto-Novo on the 22nd of this month in the AFCON 2021 qualifiers.
Recall that last month (February), Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr had stated that the team might cross the border by boat to avoid the bad roads linking both countries.
Pinnick said: “Going to Cotonou by boat, I do that all the time. When we were going to inspect, we did it. There is nothing wrong with exploring other forms of adventure in Nigeria.”
He talked about how good Lagos state boat terminal is and is also one of the best in the world, so it’s no problem, and he sees no reason why they can’t travel by boat.
He concluded by saying once they are going by the creeks to Cotonou, they will provide every needed security for the entire team.
