In what has been seen by many as a quite surprising move, a popular tennis player has called it quits from the game of tennis as Osaka retires from tennis.
Mari Osaka retires from tennis
Mari Osaka, the elder sister of four-time major-winner, Naomi Osaka, has retired from tennis, aged 24.
Mari was ranked 340th globally, achieving a career-high rank of 280th in 2018, and last played a singles tournament in January.

She partnered in doubles with her sister Naomi, 18 months younger, ranked second globally, and the reigning US and Australian Open champion at the 2017 Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

Mari announced her retirement on Instagram, saying that she did not enjoy her tennis journey ultimately, but she gave thanks for the memories she managed to make over the years.
Mari also plays a role in her younger sister Naomi’s career. Last year, she helped produce a manga character representing Naomi in a magazine targeted at teenage girls.
