The management of Opera’s African fintech startup also known as Opay has confirmed the suspension of some of their business units including the ride-sharing services, ORide, Ocar and OExpress.
According to a press statement issued via its official Twitter handle on Thursday, June 2, the suspension was due to harsh business conditions which was caused by COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown.
In the statement, the management of Opay disclosed that it has taken preemptive steps to restructure its business away from rides.
It noted that Ride-sharing is a part and not a major part of Opay’s diversified business in Nigeria adding that Opay had been investing more in Nigeria’s economy.
Opay Suspends Logistic Services

The company further stated that it would continue to invest in the e-commerce space to form the future of Nigeria’s technology development.
Meanwhile, the company has announced its contribution towards the fight against Coronavirus in Nigeria.
In a post on its Twitter handle, Opay said it has committed 50million Naira to COVID-19 fight in Nigeria and donated 100,000 Medical Face Masks to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
Opay also disclosed that it has donated 150,000 Medical Face Masks to the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board.
Also, it donated 100,000 Face Masks to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) as part of the Nigerian Stock Exchange mask for all campaign.
