Olivier Giroud Proving Himself with each Passing Game
Premier League giants Chelsea on Wednesday night ran riot in Spain as they thrashed Sevilla 4-0 in their Champions League return leg clash. Chelsea was among the first clubs to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages, they got the confirmation after their victory over Rennes before this encounter.
Chelsea went to Spain and proved their superiority over Sevilla. Chelsea new signing Kai Havertz almost gave the Blues the opener in the first three minutes of play but he did not make it count. The Blues forgotten attacker Olivier Giroud eventually opened the scoring just the five minute after the Kai Havertz chance.
Sergi Gomez had the chance to restore parity for Sevilla five minutes after Olivier Giroud’s goal but Mendy was there to produce a brilliant save. The first half ended with Chelsea taking a 1-0 lead to the dressing room against Sevilla. Sevilla tried all they could to level up in the second half, but they were unable to beat goalkeeper Mendy who was superb.
Mateo Kovacic provided an excellent assist for Olivier Giroud to score the second goal for Chelsea in the 54th minute before Kante assisted him to complete his hat-trick in the 74th minute. Sergi Gomez pushed Giroud in the box in the 83rd minute in which the referee gave Chelsea a penalty which the Frenchman converted perfectly. The game ended 4-0 in favour of the Londoners, they head into the next stage with 13 points after four wins in five games.
