Nigerians have given massive reactions to the order by Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed to shutdown the ongoing popular Nigerian reality TV show, BBNaija Lockdown.
The news about the Minister ordering the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC, to shutdown the BBNaija shoe went viral yesterday raising a lot of dust across the country.
The show that started exactly seven days ago is expected to last for 72 days, with the 20 competing housemates looking forward to winning the N85 Million naira prize, while the other 19 housemates will be open to more flourishing careers and deals after leaving the show.
One of the housemates, Nengi, has been given a deal as an ambassador of a popular hair brand after spending just four days on the show, while another housemate, Laycon, got his social media account verified also on the fourth day they all got on the show.
Nigerians, however, have gone on the social media platforms to air their opinions on Lai Mohammed’s order to close the show abruptly, on the 6th day.
Some Nigerians have faulted this order, pointing out that the organizers of the show made sure that the housemates were quarantined for more than two weeks before the show started to ensure that none of them is a carrier of the coronavirus.
They added that the changes done to the show like not having a live audience, guest visitation in the house, outsiders coming in to make their hair, sanitizing before and after every exercise among many others are in compliance with the rules put in place to checkmate the transmission of the virus.
Those who fall in this category advised Lai Mohammed to face more important issues affecting the nation as the BBNaija lockdown show is one of the most important shows entertaining the nation and the whole of Africa amidst the pandemic.
They also asked the minister to come out with the list of people he has used his office to affect their lives positively the way the show has, conspiring how the housemates who have passed through the show end up as celebrities owning their own businesses and becoming employers of labour.
Meanwhile, some Nigerians think if schools and some other other segments of human lives could be shutdown because of the pandemic, the reality show should not be an exception.
They question the morality of the show and the importance given to it, which has qualified it to be aired while the whole world is battling with a pandemic. They wonder the importance and benefit of the show to the nation.
