After approving the motion to fast track the Police reform bill yesterday, the Nigerian senate has finally approved the bill.
The motion was sponsored by Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West.
This motion became necessary against the backdrop of the tragic incidents. Wherein policemen in separate occasions killed three innocent citizens in Lagos.
The fiery lawmaker under order 42 moved the motion of urgent importance. He urged the Senate to intervene in the mindless killings almost becoming the order of the day to forestall and curb the menace.
“Mr. President and distinguished colleagues, I draw the attention of the Senate to the senseless killings of some innocent Nigerians by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS. Men of SARs on different occasions and places killed three innocent Nigerians. I’m bringing this motion before the Senate because we are not in a war situation. The Police reform bill is now important than ever. We shall look at the bill expeditiously if possible pass it on time. So that the trigger-happy and overzealous men of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, will stop the careless killings of innocent Nigerians.”
The Nigerian Senate at a plenary today, passed the police reform bill and it will be transmitted to the House of Representative for concurrence.
