The Federal Government of Nigeria has on Thursday rescinded its decision to suspend Nigeria basketball teams from all international competitions. The information was made known by Ismaila Abubakar. He is the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development. He made it known in a conference meeting in Abuja.
Why the Federal Government Lift Ban on Nigeria Basketball Teams
According to Abubakar, the latest decision is based on a letter of appeal from the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF). He also said it was signed by Mr Musa Kida. Abubarkar said intervention by concerned stakeholders, former Nigerian international basketball players and well-meaning Nigerians to seek solutions to the issues made them rethink about their earlier decision.
President Muhammadu Buhari in May approved the withdrawal of Nigeria from all international basketball competitions. The minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare confirmed the action and said the suspension will last for two years. He had said the development would allow the government to concentrate on efforts to revamp the sport.
