Some new appointments by President Muhammadu Buhari in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC Limited, have taken place following the incorporation of the apex oil company.
President Buhari recently selected Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, NNPC Limited Board Chairman, Umar Ajiya, as the Chief Financial Officer and Mele Kyari Chief Executive Officer, CEO.
On Sunday, the names of the newly selected appointees were contained in a statement made available by the Special Adviser to President Buhari, Mr Femi Adesina, in Abuja.
Buhari flexed the powers vested on him as the superintending Minister of Petroleum Resources, under the Petroleum Industrial Act, PIA 2021, to approve the board and management recruitment of the NNPC Limited, with effect from the date of incorporation of NNPC.
New Appointments: Buhari Orders Incorporation of NNPC Limited
President Buhari has ordered the incorporation of NNPC Limited in line with PIA, noting that the decisions align with section 53(1), 2021, which requires the Minister of Petroleum Resources to cause the incorporation of the NNPC Limited within six months of commencement of the Act.
This happens in consultation with the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, on the nominal shares of the Company, as there are critical areas and contributions required of her department.
Other Board Members are; Dr Tajudeen Umar (North East), Mrs Lami O. Ahmed (North Central), Mallam Mohammed Lawal (North West), Senator Margaret Chuba Okadigbo (South East), Barrister Constance Harry Marshal (South-South), and Chief Pius Akinyelure (South West).
