Mesut Ozil Set to Leave Arsenal
Former Real Madrid playmaker midfielder Mesut Ozil has reportedly held talks with Turkish giants Fenerbahce ahead of a potential move next summer.
Ozil has not played a single minute of football for the Gunners since March, having fallen out of favour under head coach Mikel Arteta. The 32-year-old said on Wednesday night that he ‘wishes’ he had the opportunity to help the team overcome their difficulties.
The former Germany international’s contract at the Emirates Stadium is due to expire next summer, though, and he appears to have played his final game for the London club.
According to reports in Turkey, Mesut Ozil has held a secret meeting with Fenerbahce bosses to discuss a pre-contract, which would see him arrive at the club next summer.
However, the experienced attacker would allegedly have to accept a £200,000-a-week wage reduction in order to move to the Istanbul club.
Mesut Ozil has so far scored 44 goals and registered 77 assists in his 254 appearances for Arsenal since his arrival from Real Madrid during the summer of 2013.
