Barcelona and Argentine skipper Lionel Messi was on the score sheet again as Barcelona beat Sevilla to strengten their title hopes. He also provided an assist in the game to help his team go two points close to La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid.
Lionel Messi provided an assist for France international Ousmane Dembele to open the scoring for the visitors. Barceloan star player Sergino Dest came close to making it two but he hit the post.
Also, another Barcelona player Clement Lenglet had his header disallowed for offside. The home team almost had an equaliser, Youssef En-Nesyri scored for them but it was disallowed for offside.
Lionel Messi Helped Barca Beat Sevilla
The Argentine grabbed the winner when in the last minutes of the game. The Barca skipper had a shot saved by Sevilla keeper Bono, with a lucky ricochet taking Messi past the keeper to score into an empty net.
He netted his 38th goal against Sevilla, six more than any player had scored against Sevilla. Messi has now netted in eight La Liga games in a row and he has 12 goals in total during those matches his best streak in two years.
The win has pushed Barcelona to the second place positon just two points below Atletico Madrid although Diego Simeone’s men still have two outstanding games.
Both sides meet again on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg. Sevilla won the first leg 2-0.
