Catalan police have notified the general public that they have made some arrest following Barcelona’s financial issues. According to reports, they said they had made several arrests after searching the Spanish club side’s offices.
Barcelona Ex-president Bartomeu in Police Trouble
However, the police did not give the specific number of arrests made so far, and the identity of those involved has not yet been confirmed as well. The police operation on Monday investigated the financial issues in Barcelona.
This is happening days away from the club’s presidential election, which is coming up on Sunday. The previous president Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned as the club’s president last October after many people asked him to do so.
Barcelona said in a statement that they gave the police the search right to help them monitor the services on their social networks. The statement reads: “FC Barcelona have offered up their full collaboration to the legal and police authorities to help make clear facts which are subject to investigation.”
“The information and documentation requested by the judicial police force relate strictly to the facts relative to this case. The club expresses its utmost respect for the judicial process in place. They are sure that those that are innocent will be released after investigation.
Reports in Spain have it that the investigation is connected to the ‘Barcagate’ scandal of February 2020. The club was accused of hiring a firm to attack its players on social media.
