Following the 4-0 humiliation of the Mexican on the home-based Super Eagles, Mexico Technical Director Gerardo Martino has described the win as a good test for his side ahead of the Concacaf Gold Cup, which is coming up later this year.
Atletico Madrid midfielder Hector Herrera scored a brace in the game, and Jonathan Dos Santos and former Barcelona forward Rogelio Funes Mori scored one each to score 4-0. The Mexicans thrashed the home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria in Los Angeles, USA, in the early hours of Sunday.
Gerardo Martino Delighted with Super Eagles Beating
Gerardo Martino speaking at a virtual press conference, said: “It always gives peace of mind, especially since we are on the eve of a significant tournament for us.” The former Barcelona manager also said: “Recovering feelings of the game and scoring goals gives a greater margin of tranquillity, this is a friendly match, it has been a good test and a good way to introduce ourselves into what is to come.”
The defeat for Nigeria means they are yet to win their last six friendly games, which means their FIFA ranking will now drop. The Super Eagles of Nigeria home-based players will still play another Friendly, scheduled for November later this year.
