United saw their opening £40m bid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka knocked back by Crystal Palace, who are seeking closer to £60m for the defender. But United are hoping to meet in the middle. They are reported to be preparing an improved bid of around £50m for the 21-year-old.
Wan-Bissaka has been widely reported as the primary target, with such reports increasing in recent days. The most recent report claims that United have already agreed on personal terms with the England Under-21 defender.
There are also reports that Solskjaer is keen on Leicester City’s Harry Maguire as he looks to reform his defense for next season. Leicester is said to have no intention to sell the 26-year-old. But United are prepared to break the record for an English defender to land Maguire.
However, they could face a fight with Manchester City for his signature. With the Premier League champions also eyeing a move.
Solskjaer is in a hurry to get Wan-Bissaka as he fears Palace are unlikely to sell both him and Wilfried Zaha in the same summer. He is also insistent on having new signings in by the time his team returns for pre-season training in just three weeks’ time. They will spend a week at their Carrington training complex before heading off on a pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East.
United will complete their first signing of the summer later this week when Swansea’s Dan James joins in an £18m move. The winger will pen his deal in the next few days to become Solskjaer’s first signing as permanent boss.
