Aston Villa Thrashed Liverpool 7-2 in EPL Matchday 4
It was a really bad day for the English Premier League Defending champions Liverpool as Aston Villa stunned them with 7-2 defeat, the heaviest they have received in decades. A hat-trick from Aston Villa new signing Ollie Watkins and the skipper of the club Jack Grealish double saw Aston Villa thrash Liverpool 7-2 on Sunday.
Liverpool is now the first defending champion to concede seven goals in a League game since Arsenal shipped in seven against Sunderland in 1953. It is now three wins out of three games played so far for Villa while for Liverpool it is a first defeat in the league this season. This is the second time Aston Villa will score seven goals in a Premier League game since a 7-1 versus Wimbledon in 1995.
Also, this is the first time Liverpool have conceded seven since a 7-2 league defeat at Tottenham in April 1963. New signing Watkins is the 10th player to score a Premier League hat-trick against Liverpool, and the first since Dimitar Berbatov in September 2010. The is the first English-born player to do so since Kevin Lisbie for Charlton in Sept 2003.
Mohammed Salah scored his 100th goal in English Football, he scored two goals for Chelsea and has scored 98 goals for Liverpool now, his last night’s brace completed his 100th goal in English Football. The Villains move up to second on nine points with Liverpool are fifth also on nine points.
Liverpool won the possession but lost the most important thing was is the scores. Aston Villa opened the scoring in the 4th minute of the game after Jack Grealish pounced on Adrian’s mistake and played in Watkins who made no mistake for his first Premier League goal. In the 22 minutes, Watkins doubled Villa’s lead as he cut into the box from the left and bend a super finish into the top corner.
Salah opened the scoring for the visitors in the 33rd minute of the game to make the scores 2-1. But just two minutes after Salah’s goal Villa’s two-goal cushion was restored thanks to John McGinn whose shot from outside the box was deflected in. Watkins completed his hat-trick in the 39th minute after heading in at the back post to make it 4-1.
The second half resumed with Aston Villa still eager to score, ten minutes after resumption into the second half Barkley got his debut goal for Villa as he curled in after a slick one-two with Grealish to make it 5-1. Salah got his second in the 60th minute, smashing in a superb strike to pull another one back which brought the score to 5-2.
Aston Villa continued to go for more goals and was rewarded in the 66th minute through Grealish whose shot is deflected into the back of the net off Fabinho to go 6-2 ahead. With 15 minutes left in the game, Grealish got his second of the game off McGinn’s classy through ball to make it 7-2.
