Kane Spurs Tottenham Double Over Guardiola City

Tottenham Hotspur has recorded a double league win over in-form Pep Guardiola Manchester City after an impressive last-minute win.

The ‘Lilly Whites’ picked up the unlikeliest victory over the ‘Cityzens’ in a late show at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola’s men have now suffered the third league loss of the season, two of which came from the hands of Tottenham under two different managers.

Antonio Conte Struggling Tottenham is on a streak of three league losses, a new unwanted record for any Conte’s team.

The Spurs manager had revealed during his pre-match press conference that his London team are out of the top four race and can only consolidate by getting a Europa spot finish.

At the back of Manchester City’s eye-catching display in a five-goal drubbing of Sporting at their back yard in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg game on Tuesday the game seemed to be lost on paper.

Kane Inspired Tottenham Stops Firing City

Tottenham started the encounter on the front foot with an early goal at the fifth minute of play after a quick counter-attack sets Heung Min Son free, who unselfishly passed to Dejan Kulusevski to finish cooly into an empty net.

Guardiola’s men as expected piled up an incessant pressure with Phil Foden and João Cancelo coming very close to levelling the scores but for a rearguard Tottenham defence.

Spurs were brought back to earth by a calamitous error from Hugo Lloris who dropped the ball to the feet of İlkay Gündoğan 12 yards out, and the German international slammed home from close range to end the half levelled.

Conte stuck to his counter-attacking philosophy which proved pivotal midway through the 2nd half.

Son was again at the helm of things as his teasing looping pass over the City’s defence was met by the first time shot from Harry Kane to send the away supporters to rapture.

Kane thought he had won the game with his 73rd-minute strike that was cancelled after a VAR check confirmed that Kulusevski was offside in the build-up to the goal.

Manchester City was handed a lifeline at injury time when Spurs defender Cristian Romero, after a VAR review adjudged him to have handled the ball in the penalty area as he tried to block a cross.

The resulting penalty was thumped into the roof of the net by Riyad Mahrez to the joyous noise of the Etihad Stadium.

Just when the game was thought to have been over with 5 minutes of additional time left to play, Kane had the last say.

Kulusevski again found talisman Kane in the box with a sumptuous cross that was met with a thumping header by the England international to silence the home crowd.

This result ends Manchester City’s 15 games unbeaten league run and opens up the title race as Liverpool are now 6 points behind them with a game in hand.

With the two league toppers meeting later in April, the league is now far from being over.
