Following the sack of Nuno Espirito, AS Roma head coach Jose Mourinho has come out to condemn Tottenham, saying they have taken the wrong step to sack the Portuguese man. The former Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham manager said he thinks Nuno is a very good coach, so the club should have given him time.
Recall that Nuno took over from Mourinho in the summer but has already lost his job after a string of poor results in all competitions. Nuno was sacked after their 3-0 defeat to Manchester United in the Premier League last weekend, and Conte is now the man in charge at the North London club.
Jose Mourinho Condemns Nuno’s Sack
Jose Mourinho said: “I think Conte is a good coach, but Nuno is a very good coach. He did a fantastic job at Wolverhampton for 4-5 years, not one year or a few months. That’s why I say Tottenham have a very good coach now, but they also had that with Nuno.”
Jose Mourinho also said: “We are here to do our best to win trophies, big trophies or small trophies. We try to win every game. We try to do the best every game and to build the best in this season and the next seasons. Sometimes you have to be patient to achieve results. You have to be ready to suffer, to sacrifice yourself for the group. This is our mentality, and we have to improve in this way.”
“When I spoke about patience, to improve, you need time. To achieve something, we need to go day-by-day, work hard. What we can do is this. But for sure we believe that we can achieve our targets; otherwise, we are not here. We have to believe we can achieve our targets.”
The former Real Madrid manager concluded by saying big infrastructure, big club, players, history all use the time to improve, and the managers all want to achieve big things. They improve themselves every day, thereby improving the club, so Spurs should have given him more time.
