The suspended super cop, Abba Kyari, is to face a fresh probe as part of the move to get to the root of the allegations levelled against him by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI.
The Police Service Commission has reportedly set up a new panel to study the documents presented by the FBI which indicted Kyari. The new committee is headed by the Director, Department of Police Discipline in the police commission, Tijani Mohammed.
Aba Kyari, a former head of the Intelligence Response Team, was alleged to have been bribed by a suspected internet fraudster, Abbas Ramon, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
Earlier, a Police Investigative Panel was set up by Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector-General of Police and headed by Joseph Egbunike, a Deputy Inspector-General of Police, to probe Kyari.
Abba Kyari Faces Fresh Probe
You will recall that the IGP panel headed by Egbunike, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, had submitted its findings of Kyari.
Kyari, who appeared before the panel several times during its sittings, claimed he was innocent in the $1.1million Internet fraud deal, despite his weak defence.
According to a source, the panel submitted damning findings in its report, despite a claim of innocence by Abba Kyari.
The United States Attorney’s Office, Central District of California, had issued an arrest warrant against Kyari for his alleged links to the suspected fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi.
The Instagram celebrity, who is standing trial for various offenses that include internet fraud and money laundering, had pleaded guilty to the charges and, if convicted, risks a 20-year-jail term (read more here).
