HBO ‘s newest limited series is on it’s way, and has Source code’s Jake Gyllenhaal is making his debut to television. He has been cast as male lead in the new TV series, Lake Success. The show is being adapted from a novel by author Gary Shteyngart who is also serving as a co-writer alongside Tom Spezialy (The leftovers).
The novel “Lake Success” revolves about the highs and lows(but mostly lows) of anti-hero; Barry Cohen, a narcissistic hedge-fund manager who abandons his family in New York and sets out on on a cross-country bus ride in an attempt to find his old college girlfriend. Meanwhile back at home in New York, Cohen’s ex-wife Seema struggles to find a balance between caring for their autistic son and her own newly found man.
Gyllenhaal is without a doubt talented and has over the years, proven that he is versatile and can play a wide variety of characters on the big screen. This role in particular I would say suits him considering the series of other narcissistic characters which he has portrayed on screen before. This particular one (Barry Cohen) shouldn’t been too difficult for him.
The production company responsible for producing the show is Riva Marker’s production company in partnership with the main star himself. The novel “Lake Success” received countless praises in 2018 , and was named one of the best books. It has an intricate plot, and there is no shock , that no time was wasted in adapting it into a TV show.
Gyllenhaal and Marker said Thursday in a joint statement. “We are thrilled to partner with HBO, who has consistently been home to some of the most exciting and acclaimed premium content over the past two decades.”
