Arsenal and Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka says he would like to meet the people who are abusing him on social media. Online abuse of players has risen in the past few weeks. African-American players have suffered most of the abuse on social media.
His family(wife and daughter) was abused after their 1-1 draw with Crystal last season and last in their game against Burnley in December, which he received a received red card; he was abused after the match online.
Granit Xhaka Wants to Faces Abusers
Granit Xhaka said: “I wish I could meet these people, sit with them, eye-to-eye and ask ‘why are you writing these things?'” “No problem to criticise me. Like a person, like a player.”
He was asked about the Arsenal fans who have joined in the abused and what he thinks about them. He said they are not Arsenal supporters. He further said if they are loyal supporters, they will support the club if they lose, draw or win.
Xhaka said the abuse is killing football gradually. If people go as far as abusing player’s and extending it to their families, it will slowly kill the players’ zeal.
