A plane has crashed while carrying COVID-19 rapid test kits to a remote village in Indonesia.
An American pilot, Joyce Lin, aged 40 flew for the Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) and was the only occupant of the plane that took off from the airport in Sentani in Papua province going to Mamit in Papua highlands, attempting to bring much needed COVID-19 test kits to Indonesia with it’s rising cases.
She was confirmed dead by divers according to the MAF, and the Kodiak aircraft was said to have malfunctioned within just minutes of takeoff and fallen into the lake Sentani. The Mission Aviation Fellowship has said they are working to investigate the case with the local authorities.
She was a missionary with the mission aviation fellowship for about three years, serving as a pilot as well as an information technology specialist.
Indonesia currently has over 16 thousand cases, with over a thousand deaths recorded.
