The Federal capital territory (FCT) ministerial task force team in charge of the enforcement of the COVID-19 restriction in the capital sealed off a hotel named pacific guest inn and resort on Tuesday for violating the presidential lockdown order.
The hotel which is located at boundary road in Nyanya, Abuja was sealed off after the task force team had been granted a court order to seal it off by the FCT magistrate court sitting at the eagles square. the chairman of the FCT task force, Attah Ikharo said there were several people arrested before they sealed off the hotel.
“Last weekend we got a report that a wide and elaborate party was held at the Pacific Hotel and Guest Inn, Nyanya. We sent security operatives the next day to go there and check, and when the team went there to check, they saw a large crowd of people in their bar eating and drinking.
“Some of them were arrested while others ran away. Those arrested were taken to a mobile court, and the mobile court judge fined them N5, 000 and engaged them in community service.
The hotel manager was questioned as to why the hotel was still carrying on with regular activities despite the lockdown, and he could only blame the owner as he said he was asked to make sure the hotel always carried on as usual during this period. “So we prayed the judge to grant us an order to seal up the hotel which the judge graciously granted and we have sealed the hotel today.”
The chairman of the FCT team said the hotel would remain closed until the hotel manager and owner appeared before the court, and the judge vacates the court order.
