Following Austin Eguavoen as the new Super Eagles head coach, many people have come out to speak decision, and even though many are saying it is a good one, other people are saying it is very wrong to sack a coach at a time like this. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), in a statement on their Facebook page, announced Eguavoen, who is currently Technical Director, as the Technical Adviser of the Eagles on an interim basis, thereby ending Gernot Rohr’s five-year reign.
Austin Eguavoen and his coaching Crew
Following a virtual meeting of the NFF Executive Committee on Sunday, it was decided that Eguavoen will work with Salisu Yusuf, who is the Chief Coach, Paul Aigbogun (Assistant Coach); Joseph Yobo (Assistant Coach); Dr Terry Eguaoje (Assistant Coach) and Aloysius Agu (Goalkeeper Trainer). Former Super Eagles players like Austin Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu and Garba Lawal were also appointed to provide technical and ambassadorial support for the crew.
According to reports, he will take charge of the team as it begins preparations for the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon until a substantive Head Coach appointment. Many people are against this because the African Cup of Nations is less than a month away. The new coach will now have to start getting familiar with the players and bringing new tactics in the limited time available.
Others are saying the appointment is in place as other African countries are handled by their ex-internationals, teams like Algeria and Senegal and others, so it is in place for Eguavoen to be named the head coach of the Super Eagles.
