Heroic Nigerian Disc Jockey, DJ Switch who caught the Lekki massacre on Instagram live and was at the forefront of helping injured victims of the shooting on Tuesday 20th October 2020 has made a statement on the events that unfolded that night.
In the first detailed video she has made since the massacre, Dj switch gave an account of what happened and revealed the biggest mistake she made on that night. She said she wanted to clear a few misconceptions she has seen about that night and also made a confirmation on the officers who were around.
She asked the leaders of Nigerians to not insult the grief, intelligence and pain of Nigerian say neglecting and denying the fact that people died on that fateful night.
She also recanted a heart-wrenching part of that night where a young man who jumped on her back to protect her was shot on her back. She repeated throughout the video that the military was there and some 45 minutes later, the police came to tear gas the protesters.
She showed the shells of bullets the protesters were able to pick as the security officers were running around to pick theirs too.
On her biggest mistake made that night, she said,
“To our leaders please not insult the intelligence of Nigerians and the family. Something I think about now in hindsight just, I wish we hadn’t done it but we carried dead bodies and dropped at the feet of the soldiers so that they could see what they did to us when I asked the unit commander ‘why are you killing us’. I wish we didn’t do that, I wish we kept the bodies because they ended up throwing the bodies in their van…”
She finished off by thanking the manager of one hospital,Mr. Ola for letting them in and treating the victims.
