Kogi Bank Robbery
An armed robbery incident in Kogi state has left several policemen and civilians dead as the armed robbers sieged the police station in the community and a first bank branch in Isanlu community, Yagba east local government area of Kogi state.
According to eyewitness reports to newsmen in the state, the armed robbers were about seven in number and went to invade the divisional police headquarters in isanlu at about 12:30pm where they reportedly used a dynamite explosive to blow up the station, killing the divisional police officer and at least seven other police officers in the station.
The armed robbers proceeded to release all the detainees in the station before heading to the commercial bank where they killed one of the police officers on duty and at least a civilian, they also made away with some money from the bank, the operation reportedly lasted for about an hour.
During the whole operation, residents of isanlu community took cover for their lives in order to avoid being caught by the crossfire from the robbers.
The kogi state police public relation officer, DSP William Ayah when contacted said, “The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ede Ayuba, has dispatched the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operation, to Isanlu to ascertain the true situation.”
