Chelsea Battle Barnsley in Carabao Clash
Chelsea will be aiming to kick off their EFL Cup campaign in style when they host Barnsley at their Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening. They will be looking to bounce back from 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the English Premier League. The started the league on a very good note beating Brighton 3-1 in their Premier League opener, but the lose to Liverpool spoilt their 100% record start.
The game had their Danish defender Andreas Christensen being sent off, the defender will have to serve his ban in the Premier League match against West Brom Albion, but he will be available for selection for the Barnsley game. Chelsea new signings Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell could be having their debut today.
The Tykes, on the other hand, suffered back-to-back defeats to the likes of Luton and Reading at the start of the new Championship campaign. Barnsley have been struggling in front of goal of late, and they are unlikely to spoil Chelsea’s party at Stamford Bridge. The last time the two teams met in the FA Cup twelve years ago Barnsley eliminated Chelsea, meaning that Frank Lampard’s troops are hungry for revenge.
