Chelsea who was placed in the third-place position booked their place to the next stage of the UEFA Champions League. The Blues played at home against bottom place Lille of France. This means that frank Lampard troops have joined the four English teams in the competition. Tottenham and Manchester City with Liverpool have also qualified to next stage of the Champions League. Liverpool also made it through the next round of the Champions League as well as they beat Salzburg at home 0-2.
Chelsea Deserved the Victory and They got it
Frank Lampard’s troops took complete control of the game last night. The two goals came in the first half of the game. It was well deserved victory for the home side as they are now in the Knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League. Tammy Abraham was first to find the back of the net in the first 19 minutes of the game.
Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta doubled the lead in the 35th minute of the game to the grant the home side first-half win. Former Chelsea striker Loic Remy also registered his name in the score sheet in the 78 minute. The only became a consolation as the game ended 2-1 in favor of the home side. The win was able to take them the knock out stage of the competition.
They finish in the second place behind Valencia and ahead of last season’s semi-finalists Ajax. Abraham’s goal became his 13th goal of the season across Europe. The goal came from Willian’s close range cross which he skillfully flicked the ball into the net.
Where Frank Lampard must improve in Chelsea
Even with the win a lot is still to be done in the Chelsea team. Frank Lampard no doubt deserve great credit for breaking through the Group H even after their horrible opening game against Valencia. Chelsea regrouped, and came out even stronger as they came from 4-1 down to 4-4 in their Stamford Bridge Stadium.
Frank Lampard and his troops really needs an assistant attacker and also defenders. The last Tammy Abraham got injured it was obvious their attack line was weak. Another problem facing the team is lack of matured defenders. They have not been able to keep a clean sheet in their last four to five games in all competitions.
The manager needs to sign new players to support and boost the morale of the other players as well. With transfer ban lifted from them we are sure the manager will do well to sign players in the January transfer window.
Man of the Match: Tammy Abraham of Chelsea
Tammy Abraham was named man of the match after his superb performance yesterday. He has really proven his worth in the Chelsea team. The young player was given chance after the club were hit with the transfer ban. The ban came to be a blessing for him in disguise, through his stellar performances in Aston Villa they were promoted to the Premier League.
The 22-year-old English player has been scoring goals for fun in the English Premier League 2019/20 season. He is said to be taking after his mentor in the person of Frank Lampard. Abraham has scored eleven goals this season in the English Premier League. Yesterday’s day marks his second champions League goal and 13 in all competition so far.
Abraham becomes the first English player to score 13 competitive goals for Chelsea in a single season since Lampard scored 17 in 2012-13. His performance has shown that he still has plenty of potential to add to team with more than half of the season remaining.
