Britain has shut down its embassy in North Korea and evacuated all diplomats. The ambassador reported this and explained it is as a result of strict entry controls put in place in Pyongyang to prevent an outbreak of coronavirus in the country.
Previously, North Korea sealed its borders and have not reported any official coronavirus case since the beginning of the pandemic which emerged in China infecting many and killing huge number of people.

According to the Ambassador through a spokesperson, the border closure has made it impossible for them to rotate their staff and as such it has become difficult to sustain operations. The British embassy in Pyongyang will, therefore, close temporarily for the time being.
The departing diplomats were bided farewell by the Swedish embassy which is still open. In their words, the British diplomats will be missed and hope they return soon.
The Britain hopes to reestablish its presence in North Korea as soon as it becomes possible.
