AZ Alkmaar faced Italian side Napoli in the Europa League with almost half of their players out with coronavirus, it would be bad news for the fans when they heard their team would be facing Italian giants Napoli in the Europa League with 13 players ruled out because of positive coronavirus tests, they must have feared the worst.
Instead, a side featuring a number of youth teams players pulled off a shock by winning the Italian at 1-0 in the Group F match. Dani de Wit curled in the unexpected winner in the second half. It was a frustrating evening for the hosts, who had dominated throughout. The Italian were shocked by the away side as they played the first half 0-0.
Napoli who beat fellow Italian side Atalanta in the weekend 4-1 with new signing Victor Osimhen of Nigeria scoring his first competitive goal for Napoli could not replicate their weekend performance in the Europa League. They are now in the bottom of the Group F standing of the Europa League as they lose at home 1-0.
