Atletico Madrid beat Villarreal to moved five points clear at the top of the La Liga table. Lionel Messi helped his side Barcelona to move two points closer to Atletico at the weekend after beating Sevilla 2:0.
Atletico Madrid Return to Winning Ways
Atletico Madrid bounced back from three games winless run. They lost twice to Levente before losing to English Premier League side Chelsea 1-0 in the Uefa Champions League.
They played Villarreal in the La Liga matchday 25 games and came out victorious to move five points clear second-place Barcelona. Thanks to Alfonso Pedraza own goal in the first half of the game. Joao Felix doubled their lead in the second half of the game to make the scores 2:0.
The result leaves them five points ahead of second-placed Barcelona and six points ahead of defending champions Real Madrid. They will host Real Madrid on the 7th of March.
Atletico has the best defence this season in La Liga. They have only conceded 16 goals in 24 matches so far. Real Madrid will play Real Sociedad tonight, and if they win, they will move above Barcelona and into second place position.
