Mikel Arteta Expresses Fears Ahead of First EPL Game after Lockdown
Mikel Arteta has spent six months with the North London side and yet he is not still confident with his team, the former Manchester City assistant manager will be playing his former side for the first time since he left the club. When he accepted the opportunity to replace Unai Emery it looks like he has all he needed but now things are not going as planned.
The Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is uncertain of the shape of his team and with the club facing the chance to be locked out of the transfer market by his club’s escalating financial crisis. He has made it clear that he is not very confident of his team beating Manchester City in their first game since lockdown.
Mikel Arteta said recently that he is not sure of Champions League Qualification and he admitted by saying: “The fact we’ve not been in the Champions League for the past three seasons has put an enormous amount of financial pressure on the club.”
“We haven’t achieved the goals we wanted in that time there is a reason for that.” “We’re trying to put a plan together to improve what we have.” “If we stand still, the gap to the top teams will become bigger and bigger. “I haven’t come here to accept that, so now the challenge is to improve the squad in the right positions to give us the best chance to compete.”
“The level of the big teams in this country is getting higher every year and if we want to compete with them we have to change straight away.” He said the plans he had three months back did not workout due the the coronavirus pandemic, Arteta wishes to improve the team, they are five points behind Manchester United who are in the fifth place position.
Arsenal are curently ninth in the English Premier League table, and are not in the Europa or Champions League spot, their trip to the Etihad will give them an edge if they win but the manager is not sure of three points from the outing. Raheem Sterling is however thinking otherwise he said he is not scared because the manager knows them inside-out
