Crystal Palace has completed the signing of Denmark defender Joachim Andersen on a five-year contract from French Ligue 1 side Lyon. The 25-year-old spent the whole of last season on loan at Fulham. He captained the team throughout his stay with the club. The club, however, could not maintain their stay in the league as they were relegated to the Championship.
Crystal Palace Signs Joachim Andersen
He has joined the Premier League side for an undisclosed fee which is suspected to be around £20m. Speaking on his signing, he said: “I’m extremely proud to be joining Crystal Palace,” centre-back Andersen said.

He also said: “And to be playing in the world’s best football league. “The management of the club and Patrick Vieira have given me very strong assurance that they know my qualities, they believe in me and want me to play an important role in the team.”
The player is Patrick Vieira’s fourth signing since joining the club. Andersen was part of the Denmark squad that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2020 that lost to England. Patrick Vieira signed Michael Olise from Reading, former Sunderland goalkeeper Remi Matthews, Chelsea defender Marc Guehi and now Joachim Anderson, which shows he is prepared for the 2021/22 season.
The 45-year-old former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder Vieira was appointed as Crystal Palace new manager after Roy Hodgson decided to retire at the end of last season.
