Tottenham to Play Fulham As Aston Villa Covid-19 Hike Goes high
Following the postponement of Aston Villa’s Premier League clash with Tottenham due to coronavirus outbreak, Fulham has been picked to play against Tottenham. The game was initially supposed to be played on the 30th of last month but it was postponed due to coronavirus in Fulham camp.
Fulham will now face Tottenham on Wednesday. Aston Villa were forced to close their Bodymoor Heath training ground last week after a massive outbreak of coronavirus in their camp.
The whole first team was placed in self-isolation and they had to play there under 23 team against Liverpool in their FA Cup on Friday. The game ended 4-1 with Liverpool winning the day.
The Premier League confirmed Spurs will now play Fulham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the same time there were supposed to play Aston Villa on Wednesday.
As a result of the re-arrangement, Fulham’s match against Chelsea will mow move from Friday to Saturday. For Aston Villa vs Everton, it has also moved from Saturday to midday on Sunday.
A Premier League statement read: “Following Aston Villa’s request to rearrange the fixture, and due to the number of players and staff who have either tested positive for COVID-19 or have been placed in isolation by the club, the Premier League had no other option than to reschedule the game.”
Spur also sent a statement which says: “Everyone at Tottenham Hotspur sends their best wishes to Aston Villa for a safe and speedy recovery to all those who are affected.”
Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho had challenged the Premier League to “show leadership” and not punish his side with further postponements over coronavirus concerns.
Mourinho said it would be “completely impossible” for another one of Spurs’ league games to be cancelled and said teams should be ready to play with the minimum 14 players.
