Arsenal Stagers Back on Track after Chelsea Win
Struggling English Premier League side Arsenal recorded an important 3-1 victory over Chelsea to end their seven-gamea winless run. Arsenal has not won a game in the English Premier League since beating Manchester United 1-0.
Two first-half goals set the platform for the Gunners’ first top-flight win since 1 November. Goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka ensure Arsenal recorded a comfortable home win against the follow London side.
Lacazette scored from the penaltyas he sent goalkeeper Edouard Mendy the wrong way from the penalty spot. Granit Xhaka curled in a superb free-kick 10 minutes after the first goal to put Arteta’s side in control.
Bukayo Saka’s cross then dropped into the top corner early in the second half to put the game beyond the visitors. Tammy Abraham scored from close range in the 85th minute of the game.
It looked like Chelsea was coming back into the game whey they were awarded a penalty but Jorginho missed it as Bernd Leno was right in the right place to save the penalty.
Five months ago, Arsenal and Arteta were celebrating winning the FA Cup against their Chelsea five months later they still beat a Chelsea team that invested £200m on new players while the Gunners spent Christmas in their lowest league position since 1982.
Lampard said beforehand he did not want to let Arsenal off this “moment” and will be furious that his Chelsea side did exactly that. Lampard is also angry with new signing Timo Werner for failing to score in the his 10 games in all competitions, his longest run without a goal for four years.
