English Premier League top side Tottenham Hotspur is out of the Europa Conference League after Uefa ruled they forfeited their final match against Ligue 1 side Rennes. The match was supposed to be played on 9 December but it was called off following a Covid outbreak, with 13 positive cases at the London club.
Tottenham Hotspur Disqualified from Uefa Conference League
Uefa then said the match could not be rescheduled and referred the matter to its disciplinary body. It is now concluded that Spurs are out of the tournament and all three points were awarded to the Ligue 1 side who means they ended the group in the top place position with Vitesse as runners-up in the second place.
Tottenham management released a statement on it saying: “We are disappointed by the ruling of the Uefa Appeals Body and the refusal to allow more time for the match to be rescheduled.” The club also said: “We have to accept this ruling, however, and our focus now turns to the competitions we remain in.”
The game against Rennes was not the only game suspended for Spurs as three of their English Premier League games were suspended raging from Civil-19 cases to heavy snow outpour.
The game was ruled out by Uefa because Uefa rules state that if clubs have 13 fit players on their A list, including a goalkeeper, they must play and eight Spurs players and five members of staff tested positive for Covid-19 so the club said they can’t play with the available players so Uefa ruled as work over in favor of the Ligue 1 side.
