The year was 2000, the first Xmen had just dropped and all my mind was how to unlock my own superpowers. All I dreamt about was being a crime-fighting vigilante and save lives. Okay, in all honesty, I just wanted to exact revenge on all my bullies. Oh, I could see myself just flying Tolu to the moon and leaving him there. However, little did I know that “with great power comes great responsibility”. Or should I say great headache.
The first issue here would be your clothing;
As a superhero, you will need to protect your identity, unless if course you want hoards of Nigerians camping at your doorstep daily. So how does one protect their idenitiy? One, you could wear a mask. Deux, you can wear a uniform or a protective suit. This is usually made from spandex and ridiculously heavy clothing. Imagine walking or flying through the hot streets of Nigeria in black widows suit or Thor’s asgardian outfit. Man’s really going to be hot. Unless you want to operate only during winter which is harmattan for us. And even then, the heat could still be very uncomfortable. Just take a look at Clark Kent for instance who wears his superman suit under is regular work clothes. Try that as a superhero operating in Nigeria and you might end up getting heat rashes for days.
Absence of tall buildings
For a superhero like spiderman who relies on tall buildings and skyscrapers to dive and swing from, operating in Nigeria is going to be a big let down. You could literally count the number of tall buildings in an average Nigerian city. Imagine Peter Parker on a field trip to Kaduna. Spidey would probably have to make his way around by boarding commercial buses or latching himself onto moving vehicles.
We may just have to look for a new Nigeria every week We have indubitably seen how long it takes our Nigerian government to fix a high way with literally only six pot holes. Now imagine in the wake of an alien invasion in Nigeria, the roads are torn to shred and buildings are destroyed when a battle ensues between Captain Nigeria and his advesaries. Who is going to pay for all the damages? How long are they going to fix the one before another battle takes place?
