For certain reasons, the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, EDSIEC, resolved to suspend its the local council election scheduled for April 19, 2022, and these reasons would be stated below.
As contained in a statement issued by the State Chairman, EDSIEC, signed by his representative, Mr. Emmanuel Abebe, it was gathered that the order to suspend the conduct of the local government polls was due to the restraining order by the Federal High Court, Abuja, on the commission.
According to the state commission, all processes leading to the conduct of the elections had been suspended, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

In summation, the statement reads in part: “It is hereby announced, for the information of the general public, that due to the content of the publication in a Newspaper of April 7, 2022, by which the Federal HighCourt, Abuja, restrained EDSIEC from conducting the local council elections in the state scheduled for April 19, 2022, all processes leading to the conduct of the election are hereby suspended, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”
