Rewards for Justice Program, the counter-terrorism rewards program of the United States Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service, has offered up to $7 million (N2.5 billion) for information leading to the arrest of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau.
The group in a tweet tagged Shekau, a cancer tumour
“This Cancer tumor must be eradicated! The US government offers up to $ 7 million for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of the terrorist Abu Bakr Organization leader,“
Abubakar is an ethnic Kanuri, and also speaks Hausa, Fulani, Arabic, and English. In 1990 he moved to the Mafoni area in Maiduguri. He studied under a traditional cleric before entering the Borno College of Legal and Islamic Studies (now called Mohammed Goni College of Legal and Islamic Studies).
He has been the leader of Boko Haram since the extrajudicial killing of its former leader, Mohammed Yusuf, in 2009.
