Two men roast 10-year-old boy in a fire in Ebonyi state because he stole some uncooked rice.
The victim identified as Ifeanyi Umoke was thrown into the fire after allegedly stealing rice in the market.
This incident happened in the Inikiri Benard village in Effium community, Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi State.
According to eyewitnesses, the two perpetrators of this inhumane act were identified as Paul Amah and Paul Nweke
Thankfully, Ifeanyi survived the fire but with severe burns.
According to reports, Ifeanyi lost his mother and lives with his father who is suffering a chronic mental illness.
The victim has to cater for himself and his dad since there was no relative to help.
Two Men Roast 10-year-old For Stealing
When contacted on the reason for their actions, they said,
“Ifeanyi has been in the habit of stealing cassava, yam and others.
“So, this time, we caught him stealing rice, we decided to teach him a lesson so that he will not come back to steal food again.
“It was not our intention to burn his whole body. We only tied him up and after beating him,
we tried to roast his toes in the fire, but because he was struggling,
he fell into the fire and got burnt beyond our expectation.”
Sympathizers intervened, brought the boy out of the fire and rushed him to the hospital.
On getting to the first hospital, AMURT hospital in Effium, he was rejected due to how severe his burns were.
Following that he was rushed to Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching hospital Abakaliki, AE-FETHA2 and is currently battling for his life
Samson Nweke, the Chairman of Human Right Defender spoke to newsmen in Abakiliki.
He said that they got a call from George Etamesor of the HRCRC over a case of grave abuse on Ifeanyi.
Confirming that Ifeanyi was indeed thrown into a refuse dump to burn by these two men for allegedly stealing some uncooked rice.
