Party going lovers were blessed with, True, a new party tune from the Afropop/dancehall star, Mayorkun, aka the Mayor of Lagos. Since its release last Friday fans and party goers have been raving about it and here’s why:
Mayorkun Makes Good Danceable Love Songs
Since Mayorkun’s foray into music after quitting his bank job in 2016, getting noticed and signed by Davido, we have heard a couple of good songs from him. Ranging from his debut hit single “Eleko” to his pre-released “Posh” and “Fantasy” off his maiden album – The Mayor of Lagos. His album tour around and outside the country was a huge success. He performed in 35 higher institutions in Nigeria, six cities in the UK and appeared on Billboard charts.
Mayorkun has a specialty only few in the Nigerian music scene posses – the ability to deliver a love song with both charming and danceable qualities intact. It is no different with his new song, True.
A Kizz Daniel Collaboration Fits Just Fine
Another artist in the scene who possesses the rare talent of fusing love and party in a song is Kizz Daniel and Mayorkun knows this. Kizz Daniel delivers a stellar verse marked by vocal and lyrical quality. Upon listening to the end you wonder why the collaboration hadn’t arrived earlier. It’s like they are made for each other *coughs*.
The Lyrics are Above Average, Even for a Party Song
True, unlike most Naija party jams, isn’t scant of lyrical prowess or quantity. There are as much beats to move to as there are many words to chew on. You can’t help but dance and sing along.
It Might Age Well
The way I see it, as good as the sound feels at the moment, it’ll taste even better in the future. True is that kind of song. Nod your head; move your body; sing along. Nostalgia will be waiting for you anyway.
True featuring Kizz Daniel is available on various music streaming and downloading platforms online. Or just wait a little, you’ll be hearing it all over the place soon anyway.
